The International Coach Federation is the professional organization for coaches, an umbrella that serves coaches from all training backgrounds and that oversees accreditation and credentialling in the profession.  Its web site includes detailed descriptions of our code of ethics, core competencies, descriptions of what coaching is and is not (with comparisons/contrasts with other professions that have some overlap) and a great deal more.  ICF

Coach U, the pioneer in coach training. The site includes a great deal of information about coaching, and the opportunity to sign up for a free introductory class about coaching as a profession.  Also features an extensive coach referral service.  Coach U

Dealing with Spam, Viruses & Hoaxes

SpamAbuse explains in detail how to deal with and discourage spam.  SA

Any responsible internet user runs an anti-virus program (but only one - I have heard of folks trying to run two, competing, anti-virus programs at the same time, which can cause problems).  However, it is useful to be able to run an outside check in moments of "Have I been hit?" panic, and HouseCall Antivirus is the one I use. (This site loads very slowly but it is worth it when you are concerned that your own anti-virus program may have been compromised.  HC

Almost as annoying, though far less dangerous than a virus, are those well-meaningly earnest emails that "warn" against an assortment of ills that will not, or cannot, or are extremely unlikely to ever happen.  My plea to you - if ever you receive such an e-mail, before you forward it to everyone in your address-book, first check the table below, and with one of the sites listed here.  You will probably find that it is a hoax that has been circulating for years. This way you will avoid annoying your friends, and you will not expose yourself to their irritated responses.

In addition to these links, below are two tables which are fed directly from Sophos Anti-Virus.  The first shows the five most recent virus alerts, but not that most viruses take a few days, or more, to gather moment, so these may not be the most currently active and dangerous.  The second table shows the most active current virus hoaxes.

Peregrine falcons! For several years now, I have spent considerable time each summer watching a pair of wonderful peregrine falcons that nest at the corporate tower of Kodak in downtown Rochester, New York. As of mid-July 2004 activity is winding down because the juvenile falcons are flying further and further afield. However, local watchers (including myself) continue to post descriptions of flight activity to the discussion board. You can also find a wealth of information about peregrine falcons at this site. You can also sign up to be informed when the webcam becomes active again, probably around March 2005.
