Personal Effectiveness Coach

The Writer

Personal Effectiveness creates Personal Success!

From the time I started writing humorous poems about exams and classes when I was in high school, through the incredible "high" of holding my first check for freelance work - for a whole £5.00 - and on to being approached by a publisher about writing a book on parapsychology back in the late 1970s, writing has been a major part of my life.

Since then I've done public relations work, written brochures and website content (including, of course, the content of this site) and for several years have written and distributed my e-zines for an audience that spans the globe.  I have also contributed to CoachU's Knowledge Base over fifty Top Ten lists and seventy-odd Coaching Tips, all of which can be accessed from the following pages.

The remainder of this page is used to show-case examples of my Top Tens, poems, seasonal thoughts, or whatever strikes my fancy this week. There is also a report on the international distribution of my newsletters at the end.

Back in 1972 I wrote the a few lines that still embody the beliefs that underlie my work:
"We may explore the universe and find ourselves, or we may explore ourselves and find the universe.  It matters not which of these paths we choose.  All that matters is that we explore, spurred and guided by the spirit of truth.  Thus, learning, loving, and growing, we evolve toward our Ultimate Goal, knowing that the truths we add to ourselves we add to all, for we and the universe are one."

My allegory, The Legend of the Village and the Mountain occupied this space for many months.  In the interests of refreshing the page content I have now moved it.  However, it can still be accessed in the Work in Progress archive.  Just click here

The Top 10 Joys of Everyday Annoyances

For those who have, it is easy to become so blind to life's blessings that we focus only on the annoying aspects. It's not a bad idea, when life's minor problems start to get us down, to look at the mirror image. How would this problem appear to someone who has no possibility of experiencing such an "annoyance?" In many cases, they would be overjoyed to have our "problems."

1. Scrimping to pay the mortgage... to a homeless family.
"Thank you for your encouragement, direction, patience, and for your great talent with the written word. You are incredibly good with your warp-speed way of putting in black and white what I murk around in for weeks." (Client)

2. The pains of growing old... to a woman who knows she will die before her children become teenagers.

3. Not having enough time to do everything... to the person who has just been laid off.

4. Being bored because there's nothing to do... to the two-jobs-and-a-family single parent.

5. Dealing with family arguments about what to eat, or where to eat... to those who are starving.

6. Having to cope with difficult children... to childless would-be parents.

7. Driving a rusty old car... to the person who walks miles to get to work.

8. Having to walk to work... to a person who cannot walk.

9. Having no air-conditioning... to people with no electricity to turn the blades of a fan.

10. The irritation of family disagreements... to those who have no family.

Excerpt from Work in Progress...

How will we heal from these tragedies? Slowly, I think, but most definitely not by hating. Certainly the perpetrators must pay full penalty for their actions, but let not the innocent suffer with them. If we become like unto the perpetrators in our actions, and in our anger, then they win.

Whether it is the neighbor in your grocery store, or the families living near wherever the originator of these dark deeds may be, let us resolve to protect them as surely as we wish that our loved ones had been protected.

Where the perpetrators hoped to disrupt, let us keep moving forward with our lives wherever we can. Where they sought despair, let us hope. Where they attempted to sow hatred, let our love for the innocents of humanity grow ever stronger.

Newsletters - International Distribution

International distribution of my two free newsletters is difficult to judge, as many subscribers use e-mail addresses that do not indicate the the country in which they live.  However, from those that do, I am aware that my newsletters reach more than 50 countries, those indicated below, plus the United States, in which the majority of the remainder reside.  If you are a subscriber and live outside of the United States, please let me know where you are so that I can know as accurately as possible where my words are received.  Thank you.

In July 2002, Work in Progress' circulation (WIP) was over 2,000, in 53 countries, and that of Grounded in the Earth, Reaching for the Sky (GITE) was over 1,700, in 44 countries - a total of 56 countries in all.
